The Guangdong Southern Marine Science and Engineering Laboratory (Zhanjiang) signed a cooperation agreement with Zhanjiang-based Guangdong Medical University on Sept 21.

The two parties plan to deepen cooperation in jointly building laboratories, carrying out scientific and technological research, setting up public research and development platforms, carrying out talent cultivation, as well as constructing high-level industry-university-research cooperation bases.

The cooperation will mainly cover the five fields of modern marine Chinese medicine, marine innovative medicine, marine functional food, marine biological materials, as well as marine engineering medicine.

It is expected that the cooperation between the two sides can promote the industrialization of the technological achievements in the marine big health industry, fostering industrial chains and product clusters with independent intellectual property rights, as well as providing comprehensive services for the "maritime power" strategy.

It is also expected to contribute to the marine scientific and technological innovation in Zhanjiang, helping build the city into a provincial sub-center city and developing a modern coastal economic belt.

The Guangdong Southern Marine Science and Engineering Laboratory (Zhanjiang) was established in January 2019, focusing on marine research and technology, as well as the development of marine equipment and resources.
