Construction of the onshore terminal for the Wushi 17-2 oilfield group development project started at Wushi town in Leizhou, a county-level city in Zhanjiang, on June 30.
Located in the Beibu Gulf's continental shelf basin in the South China Sea, the Wushi oilfield is about 20 kilometers to Wushi Port in the Leizhou Peninsula. It is the first offshore oilfield in Guangdong province, and boasts nearly 100 cubic meters of total petroleum geological reserves.
The Wushi 17-2 oilfield group development project is the first project by CNOOC Western South China Sea Company that directly channels marine oil and gas resources from the offshore operating platforms to the onshore terminal.
The project, jointly developed by CNOOC Western South China Sea Company and the Zhanjiang municipal government, is of great significance to ensuring national energy security and promoting regional economic development.
Construction of the Wushi 17-2 oilfield group is of positive significance for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Belt to achieve diversified crude oil supply sources, said Yang Yun, general manager of the Zhanjiang branch of CNOOC.
The project includes construction of the Wushi 17-2WHPA wellhead platform, the onshore terminal at Wushi town, a 24-km pipeline, a water injection pipeline, and a composite cable, which will cover a total area of about 324 mu (21.6 hectares). It is expected to be completed by 2022.
The medium- and long-term goal of the project is to have a yearly production of 2.5 million metric tons of crude oil.
