The work by three students from Zhanjiang-based Guangdong Ocean University (GDOU) won the award for excellence in the video category of the educational themed works at the fourth National Print Public Service Announcement Competition (Undergraduate Group).

Jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education and People's Daily, the biennial competition was first launched in 2013. Its awards are recognized as government awards at the ministerial and provincial-level, as well as bear the stamp of authority.

The fourth competition started on June 28, 2019, and the closing date for entries was Nov 30, 2019. A total of 19,157 works from 870 colleges and universities around the country were submitted to the undergraduate-group competition, of which 36 won awards.

The GDOU students' work, Tui Pu Zhi Lu (The Road of Popularizing Putonghua), is a micro film that tells the story of a village girl who goes to university and encounters a variety of difficulties due to the lack of Putonghua education in the past. After working hard, she becomes a Putonghua teacher a decade later.

The work aims to call attention to the promotion of Putonghua in remote areas and the standardization of the language used in classroom teaching in colleges and universities, echoing the slogan "Please speak Putonghua and use standard words" everywhere on campus.
