A batch of dragon fruit from Suixi county of Zhanjiang that is valued at $35,000 has been dispatched to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada after passing the quarantine inspection on July 13.

It is the first time for dragon fruit produced in Zhanjiang to be exported overseas.

Currently, the cultivation area of dragon fruit in Suixi reaches 100,000 mu (6,667 hectares), with an annual output of more than 400,000 metric tons and a yearly output value of over 3 billion yuan ($428.34 million).

"That Suixi dragon fruit has been exported overseas for the first time is a good start for the fruit to explore the international market," said Chen Zhao, member of the standing committee of the CPC Suixi County Committee, at the departure ceremony.

Chen added that it is also of great significance to improve the brand value of Suixi dragon fruit and increase farmers' incomes.

The brand logo for Suixi dragon fruit was also released on the same day, along with the signing to formulate an export quality standard system for Suixi dragon fruit.

"That Suixi dragon fruit has its own logo will be more conducive to the further building of its brand image," said Song Ning, president of Suixi Yangqing Dragon Fruit Cultivation Specialized Cooperatives.
