Zhanjiang in South China's Guangdong province entered the top two of the province in terms of the composite index of ambient air quality in the first half of the year, according to the province's Department of Ecology and Environment.

The city had a 98.9 percent rate of days with excellent or good air quality in the first six months of 2020, up 1.1 percent from the same period in 2019.

The average particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) concentration in the first half of the year was 19 micrograms per cubic meter, a decrease of 13.6 percent year-on-year and better than the PM2.5 European standard.
