A negotiation meeting was jointly held by Xuwen county in Zhanjiang and Chinese e-commerce giant JD on Sept 2 to discuss the company's coastal digital economy industry new town project in the county.

The project is planned to have an investment of 5 billion yuan ($730.93 million), with a total construction land area of about 800 mu (53.33 hectares).

After completion, the project is expected to provide more than 5,000 jobs through intelligent supply chain output, digital agriculture, digital health and travel, as well as digital logistics and e-commerce. Over 300 enterprises, including 100 cooperative enterprises of JD, will be introduced to the industrial town, while 30 to 50 enterprise brands will be built there within two years after the completion of the overall project.

After the smooth operation of the project, it is estimated that it will have an annual output value reaching 10 billion yuan.

The construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port has brought Xuwen a golden development opportunity, said a government leader of Xuwen.

The county has great potential to cooperate with JD in fields like digital agriculture, digital economy, and digital cultural tourism, said the government leader, who also expressed hopes that JD can further improve its project design scheme and ensure the early implementation of the project.
