A national standard for spherical graphite was recently approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration, and will be officially implemented from Dec 1.

The formulation of the national standard for spherical graphite started in 2017 and was led by Zhanjiang Juxin New Energy Co Ltd, a Zhanjiang-based company that has been dedicated to the production of spherical graphite and specialized in the lithium-ion battery industry for over a decade.

Spherical graphite is a kind of graphite product that has advantages like good electrical conductivity and chemical stability, high charge and discharge capacity, environmental protection, as well as low costs. It is suitable for making lithium-ion batteries.

However, there had previously been no unified standard for spherical graphite in China, which negatively affected the quality of spherical graphite, and caused the waste of raw materials and resources in manufacturing enterprises.

The formulation of this standard will improve the technical requirements of spherical graphite for lithium-ion batteries, regulate business operations, as well as bolster the sustainable development of the lithium-ion battery and new energy industries.

It will also assist in boosting the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry in Zhanjiang, promote the structural adjustment and upgrading of products made of traditional materials, as well as boost the research and application of electric vehicles.
