Zhanjiang was recently listed among the first batch of pilot cities for digital transformation of industrial clusters and industrial interconnection in Guangdong province by the province's department of industry and information technology.

The list aims to promote the construction of provincial-level pilot demonstration zones for innovative industrial internet applications, focusing on building a cloud platform for the industrial internet in the small household appliances industry.

In August of last year, Zhanjiang issued a three-year action plan to boost the development of its 5G industry from 2019 to 2022. Major tasks include working out construction plans for 5G base stations, as well as advancing the construction of 5G networks in the city's urban areas, key industrial parks, and key industry cluster districts. It also includes accelerating the introduction of 5G talents, as well as expanding industries like 5G basic materials, communication equipment, and smart terminal manufacturing.

By the end of 2022, it is expected that Zhanjiang will form an industrial cluster of 5G-related industries from online to offline and from consumption to production. A number of 5G solutions with independent intellectual property rights will be created to promote the integrated development of 5G and boost the development of high-tech industries in the city to a new level.
